Lecture 1: Enzymes

An original lesson introducing enzymes as biological catalysts.

What are enzymes?

Enzymes are biological catalysts. They increase the rate of chemical reactions without being permanently consumed.

Active site

The active site is the region of an enzyme where the substrate interacts with the enzyme.

Factors affecting activity

Temperature and pH can affect enzyme activity. Each enzyme works best under a particular range of conditions.

Remember

Use the terms enzyme, substrate, active site and optimum conditions when explaining enzyme action.

🧠 Quick Check
