An atom is the basic unit of an element. An element contains one type of atom. A compound contains two or more different elements chemically combined in a fixed ratio.

Valency: the combining capacity of an atom or ion, commonly related to electrons involved in bonding.

๐ŸŒฑ Biology โ€” Enzymes

Enzymes are biological catalysts that speed up chemical reactions without being used up. Their activity is affected by factors such as temperature and pH.

Revision tip: Learn the enzyme, substrate, active site and effect of temperature/pH as connected ideas.

โž— Mathematics โ€” Algebra

Like terms have the same variables raised to the same powers. To simplify an expression, combine the coefficients of like terms.

Example: 3x + 5x = 8x.
