Lecture 1: Physical Quantities

A lesson on measurement and the language used in physics.

Physical quantity

A physical quantity is something that can be measured and expressed using a number and a unit.

Base examples

Length, mass and time are examples of measurable quantities. Units make measurements meaningful and comparable.

Scientific notation

Very large or very small values can be written using powers of ten, making calculations and comparisons easier.

Remember

Always check the unit as well as the numerical value when recording a measurement.

🧠 Quick Check

Write 3 things you learned from this lesson in your notebook.
